Explosion Proof Fan

Amongst the innovative industry equipment that WSK retails, are the Explosion Proof Fans for use in hazardous areas, or with equipment capable of generating extreme conditions, such as heat and electricity.

But why pay more for an explosion-proof version of a normal industrial fan?

Whether for cooling of equipment or ventilation, an explosion-proof fan or blower  is definitely something worth insuring yourself, your staff, and your operation with.

For one, an explosion-proof fan can come in various forms, from wall-mounted varieties to oscillating wall fans, floor standing fans, roof extractors, and centrifugal fans .

But before you get one, here’s what to consider.

Key Considerations to Make When Buying an Explosion Proof Fan

Portability

While explosion proof fans may serve the purpose of ventilating hazardous rooms, they should not prove any sort of hindrance or obstruction. If you’re working in a space that requires constant movement, you may want to keep portability in mind.

WSK offers explosion proof fans and blowers that have handles and wheels, ensuring that they are easily manoeuvrable. This way, operators can continuously assess how they utilise their explosion proof fans, calculating the amount of stale air that a single fan or blower can clean.

Key Functionality

As with any purchase, the key functionality of explosion-proof fans needs to be evaluated prior to the purchase, especially if they are set to replace an existing blower. ‘

Oftentimes, explosion-proof fans may need to be used with respirators which help ensure the purity of air in a given space. Other times, explosion proof fans may be needed to simply provide air circulation, which would best be achieved by stand-mounted, beam-mounted and wall-mounted options.

Spark Resistant Construction Grades

Although ‘explosions’ may stem from a variety of factors including motor temperatures, gas and dust ingress protection, and construction, the main cause stems from one or two small sparks.

Explosion-proof fans are created to minimise the likelihood of fan-sparking, and the sturdiness of their spark-resistant construction can be demarcated by International Explosion Proof Standards such as IECEX, ATEX 94/9, BASEEFA, BS, UL & AS, as well as  conformance to Class 1, Zone 0, 1, 2, IIB / IIC, T1 – T6, and Group A, B, C & D.

Having an explosion-proof fan with the highest degree of spark resistance doesn’t mean the grade is suitable for your needs. For instance, an “A” fan may be made of non-ferrous material aluminium, and will not be appropriate if you need the fan for high-temperature applications.
